Egypt is the most populous country in the Arab world and the third most populous country in Africa, behind Nigeria and Ethiopia. The country has a coastline at the Mediterranean Sea in the north and the Gulf of Suez and the Red Sea in the east. It is bordered by Libya in the west, the Palestinian territory (Gaza Strip) and Israel in northeast, and Sudan in the south. Egypt shares maritime borders with Cyprus, Greece, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
